Understanding thaharah in Islam



1. Definition of Thaharah
Thaharah is etymologically clean and holy from various impurities. While thaharah according syar'i is clean from all hadats or impure.
2. The Law of Thaharah
Thaharah is the most important feature in Islam, which means clean or sacred of a Muslim woman both physically and mentally. Islam demands Muslim women to cleanse their hearts from shirk, envy from the heart.
In this case, Allah azza wa jalla has said:
"In the day and the boys are useless except those who face God with a clean heart". (Asy Shu'ara: 88-89)
Allah Almighty ordered Muslim women to guard his limbs from immoral acts, whereby He Speaks:
"Actually hearing, sight and heart, all of which will be held accountable". (Al Isra ': 36)
Muslim women are also required to purify the body and clothing and place of prayer from the unclean that is born, in line with the purification of the heart. From Abu Hurairah ra. It is narrated that the Prophet (s) once said:
"Allah will not accept one's prayer among you if it is a cadast, so he performs ablution". (Narrated by Bukhari)

The arguments about thaharah are mentioned in the Qur'an, the hadith and the wisdom of the virtue of thaharah, among others:
"There are those who want to wash themselves, and God loves the clean ones." (At Taubah: 108)
"God does not want to trouble you, but he wants to cleanse you ..." (Al Maidah: 7)

In other words cleanliness and sanctity is compulsory in syar'i and intellect. Thaharah that we mentioned above is a birth cleanliness that has an important position as we explain. But there is also an inner cleanliness that must be possessed by a person, namely the sincerity of the heart without the arrogance, jealousy, envy, ujub, and the properties of the damnable damages morally unjlak.
The Prophet's words: "Cleanliness is part of the Priest", it means worldly hygiene, because a Muslim who has the above disgraceful attributes will be able to weaken his faith. But if his mind is detached from these qualities, his clean spirit and his pure soul, then his faith will be perfect. The intent of the hadith is not the innate cleanliness, but the inner cleanliness.

Thaharah is divided into two kinds, among others:
1. Thahar ah Hakikiyah is a sacred clothing, body and place of prayer of impure unclean.
2. Thaharah Hukmiyah is the sacred limb of the small and holy hadast of all members of the body born from the janabat. Holy clothes and body of unclean essence.
Thaharah is divided into two:

1. Thaharah ma'nawiyah or thaharah qalbu (heart), which is holy from shirk and immorality by monotheism and charity sholeh, and thaharah is more important and more important than thaharah body. Because thaharah the body will not be possible if there is shirk.
So it is obligatory for a sensible Muslim to purify himself from shirk and doubt in a sincere, unidimensional, and sure way. And it is also obligatory upon him to purify himself and his heart from impurity, malice, hatred, revenge, deception, pride, 'ujub, riya', and sum'ah.

2. Thaharah hissiyah or thaharah body, ie purify themselves of hadats and impure, and this is part of the second faith. Allah prescribes thaharah this body with ablution and bath, or a substitute of both the tayammum (washed with dust). This unclean and dirt removal includes cleansing of clothes, bodies, and prayer premises.
